What's new at "The Starting Line?"

Update complete!

I finally had the opportunity to go through all of the links in "Roadmap to the Internet," and I deleted all of the old sites that were no longer useful or not working. Some sites whose content dropped in quality were also deleted. The remaining links should work efficiently and I hope you find them useful.

I have also added, as promised, the "Resources for Educators" page, and have finished updating the list of Search Tools. You should enjoy using some of the new search engines I have added. I will be adding a few more in the future.

And finally, I have expanded the "Roadmap to the Internet" pages. You will see many new additions from this project. Since the "Roadmap to the Internet" pages were last updated in 1996 (10 years ago!), I have been bookmarking all of the new, interesting sites I've discovered. Everything ended up in the "Favorites" on my home computer - hundreds of exciting links! I have finally copied these links onto the various sections of "Roadmap to the Internet." I have also added a lot of new links to the "Resources for Educators" page from "My Favorites." Have another look at these two sections. A lot of the links went into the "Other Interesting Resources" page because they were of a miscellaneous nature. I hope you will enjoy what I have done.

Links to explore the Internet

The two latest additions to this site have been the "Resources for Educators" section, which was designed to offer instructors at all levels acces to lesson plans, useful news, ideas, grants and funding sources, classroom projects and industry trends, and the "Virtual Classroom," some great sites for learning about computers and other topics.

The other recent addition in past years has been the "Tom's Favorite Picks" page which was created to provide easy access to some of the most useful and innovative information and web sites on the Internet. As I discover (or am informed of) useful new sites to check out, I will list the ones that I feel should be of interest to the majority of people who rehularly use this site. After awhile, these links will be copied to the appropriate section of the "Roadmap to the Internet" and will hopefully be replaced by new links.

In the ealy part of 1996, I put a lot of work into the "Roadmap to the Internet" (my collection of useful links). Many new links were added in areas such as Education (new links to CCC State Chancelor's Office, other State (CA) and Federal information sources, and more links than ever to more useful information and technology updates), more information for job seekers, web developers, multimedia and CBT developers, and a whole lot more! New categories were added for "Starting Points," Search for Information, Government and Politics, Legal information and law libraries, and Telecommunications. The categories of News, Magazines, Sports, Weather, Television and Automotive were separated and expanded.

I have attempted to improve "The Starting Line" by organizing the information on the "Roadmap To The Internet" link into an easier-to-use format and by adding some better graphics and backgrounds to some of the linked pages.

Now that I have updated this site, it is no longer necessary to keep it a secret. If you enjoy using my site as a jumping board to the information on the Internet, please tell others so that they can begin using the recources on this web site.

As always, your comments and suggestions would be appreciated!
